How to Block Spam on Yahoo! Mail

This wikiHow teaches you how to block spam email addresses on Yahoo Mail, and how to mark and delete spam. You can mark and delete spam on the web version and the Yahoo mobile app, but you can only block email addresses on the website version. Unfortunately, Yahoo is known for its very limited blocking capabilities, so there’s nothing we can do to prevent videos, emails or ads from showing up in the inbox.

Block spamming addresses

You need to know when blocking is effective. If you’re constantly receiving emails from certain senders, you can block their messages from reaching your inbox. Unfortunately, many spam mail services use dynamic email addresses to avoid this; If you are trying to block certain spamming services with many different email addresses, delete spam on your computer or phone.

Open your Yahoo inbox. Go to https://mail.yahoo.com/ using a web browser. Your Yahoo inbox page will open if you’re signed in.

If you’re not signed in to Yahoo, enter your email address and password when prompted.

Switch to the new Yahoo interface (if necessary). If you are still using the old Yahoo interface then you need to click on the blue One click away from your upgraded Inbox link in the bottom left corner of the page.

Open junk email. Click a junk email to open it.

Copy the address of the spam email. In the upper-left corner of the email is the sender’s name (for example, “Facebook”), with the email address between brackets (such as “<facebook@facebook.com>”). Click and drag your mouse over the email address to select it, then press Ctrl + C (Windows) or ⌘ Command + C (Mac) to copy the address.

Note: do not include brackets in email addresses.

Click Settings in the upper right of the inbox. A drop-down menu will appear.

Click More Settings . This option is at the bottom of the drop-down menu. The Settings window will appear.

Click ＋ Add . This option is to the right of the “Blocked addresses” heading in the middle of the Security and Privacy section.

Enter the spam email address. Click the “Address” text field, then press Ctrl + V (Windows) or ⌘ Command + V (Mac) to paste the copied email address into the text field.

Click Save . This blue button is below the email address you just entered. This address will be added to the blocked list, and in the future, all emails from them will not reach your inbox.

Delete spam on your computer

Delete spam on your phone

Open Yahoo Mail. Click the Yahoo Mail icon, which looks like a white envelope on a purple background. Your Yahoo inbox will open if you’re signed in to your account.

If you’re not signed in to Yahoo, enter your email address and password when prompted.
If you’re signed in to multiple accounts, you’ll need to select one to continue.

Select junk email. Long press on the junk email until a checkmark appears to the right of the email, then tap on the other emails you want to mark as spam.

Click Mark as spam (Mark as spam). Options are at the top of the drop-down menu. Selected emails will be moved to the Spam folder.

On Android, you’ll need to tap the shield icon with the X at the bottom of the screen.

Advice

The easiest way to prevent spam from reaching your inbox is to restrict your email address from entering pages that you don’t necessarily use. However, Yahoo addresses are always subject to spammers.
Many business newsletters are sent as a recurring email on a daily or weekly basis. While not “spam”, they are annoying. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter by finding the unsubscribe link at the bottom (or top) of the email and clicking it.

Warning

Occasionally, well-intentioned email accidentally goes to the Spam folder. It’s a good idea to check your Spam folder regularly.
While it’s not possible to prevent spam from reaching your inbox 100%, you can reduce the amount of spam you receive by regularly marking spam and deleting them.
