There’s really no cure for a cold, but there are some things you can do to temporarily relieve cold symptoms. Hot toddy (a hot drink consisting of alcohol mixed with water, honey and some herbs) is a home remedy for colds. Hot tea mixed with a little alcohol can also help you treat a cold. • Advice

    • Most of the alcoholic beverages used as a cold and flu remedy are effective thanks to the mixture of herbs, lemons, honey and spices rather than the alcohol content in them. You can skip alcohol and still get the same effect without getting drunk.
    • Drink a lot of water. This helps you stay hydrated and reduces the risk of fainting when drinking alcohol.
    • Consider some other home remedies like getting plenty of rest and eating chicken soup.
    • Do not use alcohol to induce sleep. Drinking too close to bedtime can cause you to lose the very important REM (rapid eye movement) sleep phase and fall straight into deep sleep. [15] X Research Source

    Warning

    • Be sure to read any warnings on the medicine label before taking any medicine. Taking drugs with alcohol can have serious consequences.
    • Do not use alcohol to treat illness in children, people with weakened immune systems or people who do not want to drink alcohol.
