How to Remove Xbox One Game Console

This wikiHow teaches you how to open the inner case of your Xbox One console. Note: removing the case will void the product’s warranty. This guide does not apply to Xbox 360 consoles.

Disconnect Xbox One from all sources. Xbox One needs to be disconnected from all accessories and cables, including external storage, HDMI/audio cables, and charging cables.

Ground yourself before removing the console. Static electricity can permanently damage a circuit, so proper grounding techniques, such as touching a metal surface, must be performed before proceeding.

Remove the left side cover. First, you need to insert a flat-head screwdriver or part pry tool into the space between the left corner behind the console and the plastic mesh on the left side of the device. Then, gently pry the net up to remove it.

Plastic tools will be better than metal because this plastic mesh is relatively fragile.

Slide the housing out of the console. The chassis is on the right side of the plastic mesh, slide it to the left to detach it from the console.

Remove the second frame located to the left of the plastic grid. To remove this part, you need to manually push the upper and lower chassis in opposite directions to create a gap, then insert a flat-head screwdriver into the warranty-stamped docking slot on the back of the console. Proceed to pry until the chassis separates from the device.

This step will be easiest to do when the console is placed upright.
After the warranty stamp is torn, the game console will be out of warranty.

Disassemble the rest of the chassis. Insert the screwdriver into the upper part of the plastic mesh on the back of the console and pry until the frame separates, continuing to work all the way to the junction on the other side of the device. After removing all of the brackets, the Xbox One’s rear cover is ready to be removed.

Do not remove the case immediately, as this will damage the ribbon cable that connects the front of the Xbox One to the circuitry.

Lift the top cover up. You need to place your Xbox One on a flat surface with the base facing down. Then, lift the top case up and open it about 90 degrees from the body.

Unplug the front panel ribbon cable. Find the end of the cable near the “On” button on the front of the console. Once you find it, pull up the blue frame surrounding the connector, then gently tuck the cable to the left. So the ribbon cable is disconnected from the top case.

Lift the top cover off the body. At this point, you can lift the case cover without hindrance as all links have been removed.

Place the cover of the case in a dry and safe place.

Disconnect speaker wire and Wi-Fi. These are the two wires that connect from the top of the console to the console; Please remove them from the front of the machine.

Open the screw that secures the Wi-Fi card. Use a Torx T8 screwdriver to unscrew the screw that secures the Wi-Fi card in the bottom left corner of the body (if the Xbox One front is facing you).

Remove the Wi-Fi card. Pull the Wi-Fi card vertically, facing up. The Wi-Fi card will be removed from the circuitry inside the Xbox One.

Place the Wi-Fi card with the top case cover of the Xbox One.

Remove the screw from the metal case. Use Torx T9 and T10 screwdrivers to do this. This metal case is the last part that you need to remove to open the Xbox One. There are a total of 8 screws to remove; you should see a “C” with a light colored number next to or below the screw.

There are two screws located under the fan box base.
Screws after removing must be put in a plastic bag to avoid loss.

Gently open the metal case. Grab in the corner of the fan box and pry up diagonally so as not to damage the cable in the opposite corner. ^{[2] X Research Source}

You have to be very gentle at this step. If it feels stuck at any point, put the metal case down to check and try again.

Unplug cable. This is the cable that connects the Wi-Fi card to the circuit. Gently pull the white connector away from the white port. You have finished removing the top of the metal case from the Xbox One.

Set the metal case aside with the cable side facing up.

Observe the components inside the Xbox One. You will see the cooling fan, hard drive, CD player and green motherboard along the bottom of the machine.

At this point, the entire bottom of the Xbox One case is also detached. You can proceed to paint or decorate the Xbox One case (if that is the original purpose).
If you want to clear a CD stuck in the player, find the small hole on the front panel and poke it with an appropriate object (e.g. a straightened paperclip) to force open the disc tray.
