Capture the full screen on Windows 8 or 10. Press the key combination ⊞ Win + PrintScreen to directly save the screenshot as a file. This way will save you time pasting the image into Paint. The file will be in the Screenshots folder of the large Pictures folder. The computer will automatically create the folder if it is not already available.

Capture full screen on Windows 7 or Vista. Press the ⎙ Print Screen key. Key names can be shortened and are usually located between the F12 and Screen Lock keys. For laptops, you may need to press Function or Fn .

  • The image will be written to the clipboard. You must paste an image into a document to view it.

Take a screenshot of the active window. Click on the window you want to capture, then press Alt + PrintScreen , which on some laptops will be Alt + Fn + PrintScreen .

  • You need to paste the image first before you can save it.

Capture full screen . To capture the image displayed in full screen and save it as a file on the desktop, press ⌘ + ⇧ Shift + 3 . The computer will make a camera shutter sound and the file labeled “Screen Shot [date]” will appear on the desktop.

  • If you prefer to copy the picture to the clipboard instead of saving it as a file, press ⌘ + Contrp + ⇧ Shift + 3 . The image will be copied to the clipboard and you can paste it into a document or photo editor.

Capture part of the screen. If you only want to capture part of the currently displayed screen, press ⌘ + ⇧ Shift + 4 . The mouse pointer will turn into scissors. Drag the mouse to limit the screen frame you want to capture.
