Everyone must be annoyed when entering new words but the existing content on the page keeps being deleted. You may think your PC has been compromised, but often the problem lies in the fact that you pressed the Ins (Insert) key on your keyboard. Turn off Overtype mode with the Insert key

Click Insert or Ins . This key is usually located near the upper right corner of the keyboard. When you press this key, the Insert function will be enabled or disabled for all PC applications.

Press Ctrl + Z to recover accidentally deleted text. You may need to press this key combination to undo all the text that was accidentally replaced.

Re-enter the text. Now that you’ve pressed the Ins key, you’ll be able to type without losing what’s currently on the page.

  • If you’re using Microsoft Word and often accidentally hit the ⌤ Ins key, consider disabling overwrite mode. You can see the method Disable Overtype mode on Microsoft Word for how to do it.
  • If you still have trouble entering new text, save the session and close the application. After restarting the application, you should be able to type normally.

    Click OK . From now on when you press the Ins key on Microsoft Word, the overwrite mode will no longer be on/off.
