Vaginal burning pain can be caused by sex, childbirth, or an infection. If you are experiencing vaginal burning pain, there are many home remedies that can help ease the symptoms. If vaginal burning pain has no obvious cause, see a health care professional to rule out STIs and some cancers. You can also take preventive steps to prevent this from happening again in the future. Practice safe sex and use lubricants to help keep your vagina from burning.
Steps
Treat pain at home
- Wrap the cloth around the ice bag. Do not apply the ice pack directly to the skin to avoid burning the skin.
- Apply an ice pack to the painful area for 15-30 minutes.
- If you don’t have an ice pack, you can use a plastic bag filled with ice or a bag of frozen vegetables. Remember to cover cold objects with a cloth when applying.
- A cool shower can also help.
- Ask your doctor before adding things like salt, baking soda, or vinegar to water.
- Use unscented products whenever possible, including toilet paper.
- Make an appointment with your gynecologist if you are concerned about vaginal pain.
- If you have a sexual partner, you should abstain from sexual activity until the pain is gone.
- If possible, don’t wear underwear at night. This way your vagina will be maximally breathable.
- Wear loose clothing. Tight clothes will be very uncomfortable. Don’t wear nylon tights these days. Instead, you should wear loose-fitting skirts and pants. Try to choose breathable cotton fabric so that the air on the skin can circulate as much as possible.
- Squeeze the pelvic muscles and hold for 5 seconds, then relax for 5 seconds. Repeat this movement 4 times. Do this exercise 3 times a day.
- Practice squeezing every 10 seconds. It may take you several weeks to practice this exercise.
- Concentrate while doing Kegel exercises. Make sure to squeeze your pelvic muscles but not your abs, thighs, or buttocks.
Seek medical attention
- Vaginal discharge with an unusual odor or color
- Redness, itching, or irritation
- Bleeding between periods, after intercourse or after menopause
- Any swelling in the vagina
- Any blisters inside or outside the vagina
- The antidepressants amitriptyline and nortriptyline can ease vaginal burning. Your doctor may prescribe these medications for you if they believe they will help ease your pain. The drug can cause drowsiness, dry mouth, and weight gain. This is the last resort after ruling out all other causes of vaginal burning pain.
- Antiepileptic drugs can also relieve vaginal pain, but have similar side effects.
- Many STIs can be cured with a simple course of antibiotics. If you do get sick, your doctor will prescribe antibiotics to treat the infection. You need to take the full dose of antibiotics prescribed by your doctor.
- Some sexually transmitted diseases such as herpes and HIV have no cure. You will need to talk to your doctor about the best treatment to control symptoms and complications.
Prevent vaginal pain
- Apply the gel about 10 minutes before intercourse. If the pain persists, you can use a lubricant regularly throughout the day.
- If irritation occurs, wash off lubricant immediately.
- Talk to your doctor about treatment options. Your doctor will find the right treatment, based on your age, symptoms, and medical history.
- The vagina is self-cleaning with natural secretions. You can wash the vulva, the area outside the vagina, every day while in the shower. Use a mild, unscented soap to wash your vulva. [18] X Trusted Source National Health Service (UK) Go to Source
