How to Open torrents

This wikiHow teaches you how to “open” torrent files. Torrent files are basically links to online information that allow you to download the appropriate file or group of files, so you need a specialized program, such as BitTorrent, to open the torrent file. We can open torrent files on Windows computers, Macs and Android-based devices, but it is not available on iPhone and iPad.

Open the qBitTorrent website. Go to https://www.qbittorrent.org/download.php using a web browser on your computer.

Double-click the downloaded installation file. The file will open.

Install qBitTorrent. Depending on your computer’s operating system, proceed as follows:

On Windows — Click Yes when the option appears, then follow the on-screen installation instructions.
Mac — Drag the qBitTorrent application icon to the “Applications” folder shortcut, then follow the on-screen instructions. You may need to confirm the download for qBitTorrent to start installing.

Double-click the torrent file. Because the qBitTorrent installation involves linking all torrent files to qBitTorrent, the torrent file opens in qBitTorrent.

On Mac, you may need to click once on the torrent file, click File , choose Open With , and click qBitTorrent in the pop-up menu.

Click I Agree when the option appears. The “Save” window of the file will appear.

You won’t need to click I agree when opening files with qBitTorrent later.

Choose a save location. Click the folder icon next to the “Save at” text box, then select the folder and click Select Fpder . This is the directory where the torrent’s files will be saved.

On Mac, you need to click Choose instead of Select Fpder .

Click the OK button at the bottom of the window.

Browse the torrent’s file. While the torrent is downloading, you can track the file of the link by going to the folder where the torrent is downloading and opening that folder.

The torrent’s folder will have the same name as the torrent file.

On Android

Open the Android file manager app. This application will vary by Android series, but is usually named “Files” or “File Manager”. You will find it in the App Drawer.

Select a storage location. Click on the save location (ex: Internal – internal storage) to download the torrent.

On some file management applications (such as Samsung Files) this step will not be available.

Click the Download folder located in the “D” section of the folder list.

Click on the torrent file located in the Download folder. The torrent file will open in uTorrent.

Tap ALLOW twice when this option appears. This is to grant uTorrent access and location information. The associated torrent file will begin downloading.

Wait for the download to complete. Once the file has finished downloading, you can continue.

Open the folder of the torrent file. Go back to the Downloads folder in your Android’s file manager, then tap the torrent’s file (or folder) to open it.

Depending on the file type of the torrent, the downloaded file may not be compatible with Android devices.

Advice

You should let your torrents upload (seed) at least during download by keeping the torrent on the client and not shutting down the computer. This is a courtesy when using torrents.
