This wikiHow teaches you how to play 2-player games on Nintendo Switch. You can play 2-player games by panning horizontally and using the joy-con controller; or one player using the joy-con controller, the other controlling with the Switch Pro controller.

Remove the joy-con handle. To remove the joy-con gamepad, you need to remove the device from the dock (if attached) and turn it over. Hold down the circular button next to the ZL and ZR buttons on the back of the joy-con handle, then slide the handle out of the machine. Do the same with the other joy-con handle.

Attach the joy-con strap. The device consists of thin pieces with two buttons attached to a wrist strap. The joy-con strap is engraved with a “+” or “-” sign on the top. You need to make sure that the “+” and “-” buttons on the joy-con controller correspond to the “+” or “-” mark engraved on the strap. Slide the bottom opening of the strap through the groove located on the side of the joy-con handle until the two devices snap into place.

To open the joy-con strap, push the slide switch located below the strap and slide it up to remove it.
If one player uses a Switch Pro controller, the other player can attach both joy-con controllers to the handheld holder to turn into a standalone gamepad.

Select the joy-con icon. The joy-con icon on the home screen is the controller settings menu. This is where you can set up a gamepad for 2 people.

You can select items on the Nintendo Switch by tapping the screen, or use the joystick to go to the item and then press the “A” button.

Select Change Grip/Order . This option is at the top of the controller settings menu.

Press the R + L button on both gamepads. If you’re using a joy-con for two-player play, you’ll need to rotate the handles to the sides so that the analog stick is on the left. Then, press the two buttons (R & L) at the top of the strap. If you’re using a Pro controller or another controller, press the R&L button on both controllers that you want to use.
