Practice positive self-talk. Replace negative statements with affirmations. Changing your words changes your mind and overwrites negative thoughts and actions in your subconscious mind. Instead of saying “I can’t do it!”, say “I can!”. Instead of saying “I’m going to fail at everything!”, try saying “I’m going to succeed!”. If you find yourself drowning in negative words, stop and take a deep breath. Consider why you say you can’t succeed. Identify what makes you negative. Note that these are the triggers and commit again to assert yourself. [3] X Research Sources

  • You cannot change your words in an instant. You need time and consistency. Stay positive as you try to rid yourself of subconscious negative thoughts and behaviors.

Think of a positive ‘mantra’. When stressed and anxious, stay calm and quell negative thoughts by reciting your own mantra over and over. Applying this therapy regularly will help reduce the generation of negative thoughts and actions from the subconscious. Identify negative thoughts and acknowledge that your self-judgment is unfounded. Come up with a ‘therapy mantra’ that does the opposite of what you accuse yourself of. Create two more ‘mantra’ sentences also express an idea to have a change when used. Choose a spot on your body to practice positivity. You can choose heart or belly. Place your hand on your heart or belly and repeat the mantra. Focus on action and be more confident. [4] X Research Sources

  • If you feel that you are not good enough, you should use the mantras “I am good”, “I am worthy” and “I am worthy of it”.

Practice visualization. Visualizing or imagining the achievement of a goal is an effective way to engage and exercise your subconscious mind. Start with a visualization exercise that uses one or two senses. Try to visualize every detail of a photograph or a familiar object. Once you’ve mastered that, move on to visualizing the entire scene in a movie or your memory. Memorize sounds, colors and flavors. Once you have the ability to focus and describe the details accurately, start visualizing how you’ve achieved your goal. You need to visualize it as real as possible. Don’t let yourself get stuck in negative images or fail, imagine yourself succeeding and achieving your goals! For example, if you envision giving a speech, think of yourself overcoming your stutter or forgetfulness instead of thinking about people walking away. [5] X Research Sources

  • Visualize specific goals. Be specific about what you want to achieve. Locate, time and contextualize success. The more specific the better!
  • Don’t imagine yourself as superman, imagine yourself as yourself.

Practice mindfulness meditation

Prepare to meditate. Meditation helps you focus and tap your subconscious. Before meditating, decide how long to meditate. If you’re new, try meditating for 5 minutes. Wear comfortable clothes. Set the clock and meditate in a quiet place. Choose a location where no one will disturb you. You can meditate outdoors, on the floor of your apartment, or on the back porch. Stretch before entering the meditation pose. Touch your toes, relieve neck tension, and relax shoulder blades. [6] X Research Sources

Posture setting. Find a stable seat. Sit in a chair with a backrest, feet flat on the floor, or sit cross-legged on the floor. Sit upright—showing the natural curve of your spine. Biceps parallel to the body. Elbows slightly bent and hands resting lightly on knees. Lower your chin slightly and look at the floor. Hold still, be aware of your body before you begin. Focus on breathing and thinking. Close your eyes and start monitoring your breathing. Focus on breathing in and out. When you relax, your mind is also distracted. Thoughts move from the subconscious to the conscious. Pay attention to these thoughts but don’t judge them. Let that thought exist. When you realize your mind is distracted, focus on your breathing. Whenever your mind is distracted, keep focusing on your breathing. Repeat the above process until the meditation time is up. [8] X Research Sources

Prepare. Prepare a pencil or ballpoint pen and paper. Find a timer: an egg timer, timer, or phone will do—5-10 minute timer. Sit in a quiet place and not be disturbed. Put the phone on silent mode. Avoid using a computer or tablet because it distracts you! [9] X Research Source

Start writing. Sit in a comfortable position, take deep breaths to focus your thoughts. Start the timer and write. Don’t approach the stream of consciousness with a to-do list, let the thoughts flow on their own. Every time a thought pops into your head, write it down. Write down mundane thoughts as well, don’t avoid weird thoughts, these may be thoughts in your subconscious. Don’t judge thoughts or stop to analyze them. Just write it down on paper. Continue jotting down thoughts until the clock goes off. [10] X Research Source

Post analysis. When the time is up, read the thought you just wrote again. Meditate on the words that have just been written. Identify repetitive thoughts or odd phrases. Try to find a connection between two different ideas. Note any thoughts that may be coming from the subconscious. As you continue this exercise, reread your thoughts from previous practice sessions. Monitor the progress of the stream of consciousness and assess whether the subconscious mind awakens on its own. [11] X Research Source

Record your dream. Before you go to sleep, put a pen and diary by your bed. Record your dreams in your diary when you wake up in the morning or in the middle of the night. Write in detail what you can remember. Write down every little detail, even if it’s only for a moment. After you have recorded your dreams for a while, notice concepts, characters, or objects that appear over and over again.

  • Your subconscious may appear in dreams. Therefore, recording and studying dreams will give you access to the subconscious. [12] X Research Source

Determine if the dream has a meaning and categorize it. Dreams with no meaning often incorporate elements of your surroundings, your dreams may include smells, sounds, and actions happening around you; meaningful dreams come from the subconscious—it’s no ordinary dream but a little strange, confusing, and illuminating. If your dream has meaning, decide what type it is. Is it a predictive dream about future events? Or a word of warning? Is it realistic, does it confirm what you already know? Did that dream inspire or fulfill your desires? Does the dream fulfill your wish or wish to get along with someone or something? [13] X Research Source

  • Vivid dreams often have significant meanings.

  • Interpretation of meaningful dreams. You don’t have to be an expert to analyze your own dreams! You just need a little effort and research. There are many resources online and reference books at the library! When analyzing dreams, evaluate as a whole. Every detail you remember has meaning and will help you decipher your dreams and understand your subconscious. If the dream dictionary defines an incomplete symbol, try approaching the dream according to the context of your life. Try to determine with yourself if there is a reason why that image, person, or thing appears in your dream. [14] X Research Source
