Pre-clean the container. First, use a scratch-resistant microfiber rag to wipe it over. Wipe off the cover and easily removed things like lint, dirt, and earwax.

Moisten the rag with a little liquid if necessary. You can use distilled water for cleaning; For stubborn stains, dab a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to moisten the rag, but only a very small amount of liquid should be used. If possible, dry rags are best.

  • AirPods and the case are not water resistant, so be careful not to expose the charging ports or AirPods to liquid. [1] X Research Source

Use a cotton swab to wipe away dirt or stains on the outside of the container. A cotton swab will give you great accuracy and help remove every nook and cranny of the stain. If needed, you can moisten the cotton swab with distilled water to soften dirt and earwax. If you encounter stubborn, clumpy stains, a little isopropyl alcohol moistened the end of the cotton swab will be effective.

Clean the inside of the charging ports thoroughly. Use a cotton swab or cotton ball to clean the charging ports—where the AirPods are stored when you’re not using them—and other nooks and crannies. You need to remove dust and lint as much as possible from the contacts to ensure that the case continues to charge quickly and to avoid short-circuiting.

Clean the grooves on the top of the container. Cleaning these grooves will keep the case looking like new. Moisten the cotton swab with a little water or alcohol, if necessary. Don’t soak the cotton in the solution for a long time, though, as you won’t want water dripping down the electronic circuits of the container. You can gently remove earwax and dust from these hard-to-reach areas with a damp cotton swab.

Use toothpicks to remove stubborn dirt. This is where bacteria can hide. A plastic or wooden toothpick will help you clean cracks and crevices in the container, especially around the lid. However, be gentle and careful. Patiently remove the earwax gradually without using too much force. [2] X Research Resources Here are a few helpful tools to help you keep your AirPods case clean, looking like new, and in good working order:

  • Tape or staples. Use either to remove dirt, lint, and earwax patches; If using adhesive tape, you should choose a good quality product so that the glue does not stick. Press the tape or the tip of a pin firmly into the grooves to pull earwax and buildup out of the cracks in the lid and top of the container.
  • Soft eraser. Use bleach to remove stubborn stains and dirt.
  • Soft toothbrush. Use only soft or super soft, and scrub gently to remove dirt and lint from crevices and Lightning connector. [3] X Research Sources

Wipe again with a microfiber rag. Your AirPods case will now look almost new. The final step is to use a quick dry microfiber rag. Wipe the container gently and firmly, then do the final step one more time to complete the cleaning process.

Quick clean AirPods again. Wipe each AirPod carefully. If there is dirt in the grid, gently brush it off with a toothbrush. You can apply a small amount of isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab to dry out the earwax, but be careful not to get it near the grilles and the speaker.

Put the AirPods back in the charging case. Your AirPods are ready for the next use.
  • Warning

    • Microfiber cloths
    • Cotton swabs and cotton balls
    • Toothpick
    • Distilled water, or 70% isopropyl alcohol
