Steps

Make a Mask for Dry Hair

Separate the yolk from the egg white. To make a mask for dry hair, you only need the yolk, not the white. Egg yolks contain fats and proteins that moisturize and restore dry, lifeless hair. Separate the yolks from the whites and place them in a small bowl. [1] X Research Source

  • For easy egg separation, break the egg by hitting the side of the bowl. Hold the egg flat on the bowl and carefully remove the top half of the shell. Gently push the red from one half of the shell to the other to let the whites fall into the bowl, then transfer the yolks to another bowl. You can also use egg oil instead.
Beat egg yolks or oil with olive oil. Pour the olive oil into the bowl along with the egg yolks and beat until the mixture becomes fluffy and smooth. You will get half a cup of the mask mixture, which is enough to cover medium-length hair.

  • If your hair is very thick and long, add a tablespoon of olive oil.
  • If your hair is short, use only a tablespoon of olive oil.

Apply the mixture to damp hair. If the hair is a little damp, it will be easier to apply the mask mixture from the roots to the ends. Use a large-tooth comb to brush the mask mixture evenly on your hair, making sure to absorb each hair end.

  • If the ends of your hair are very dry, apply this mixture to the ends more than the roots.
  • If not using all of the mixture, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Wash your hair with cool water. Shampoo will wash away any remaining oil and eggs, leaving your hair smooth, shiny, and tangle-free. Remember to use cool or lukewarm water so the eggs don’t “cook” in your hair.

Separate egg whites and egg yolks. If the scalp is oily, the egg yolk will provide too much nutrition for your hair, so you should only use the white as a mask. Egg whites will gently remove unnecessary oil from the hair, making it shiny. Separate the white from the yolk and set the yolk aside. [2] X Research Source

Only use eggs to condition your hair. If you don’t have olive oil and you need a natural hair conditioner right away, beat the yolks and egg whites together. After shampooing, comb the egg mixture through wet hair from roots to ends. Leave it on for five minutes, then rinse with cool or warm water. This simple conditioner is suitable for all hair types.
Add other hair conditioners. If your hair is especially dry and brittle, there are better ways than a simple egg and olive oil mixture. Try mixing a spoonful of the following ingredients to make a more effective mask: [3] X Research Source

  • Honey
  • Aloe Vera Gel
  • Milk
  • Very ripe avocado or banana

Replace olive oil with other oils. If this is your first time making a face mask, olive oil is great. You may also be interested in trying other oils to see if they work for your hair. Try one of the following oils for your next face mask:

  • Jojoba oil: for oily and normal hair
  • Almond oil: for normal and dry hair
  • Coconut oil: for dry hair

Fragrance the hair mask. If you want your hair mask to smell like a stylish salon and not your kitchen, try adding essential oils to the mix. A few drops of essential oil will quickly change the hair mask. While waiting for the mask to soak into your hair, you can enjoy the effects of the aromatherapy treatment. Try five to ten drops of one of the essential oils below:

    • Lavender
    • Rose
    • Lemongrass
    • Thyme
    • Vetiver grass
  • Advice

    • The longer you leave the mask on, the softer your hair will be.
    • Before applying the mask, massage the scalp for five minutes, helping blood flow to the head.
