Make a list of good habits. Before you change, you have to figure out which areas of your life you feel are too stiff, in order to find ways to loosen it up. What frameworks do you often repeat?

  • Start with waking up in the morning. What do you want to do first thing in the morning? When do you start your day job?
  • Bring a notebook to jot down all the things that you find to have become a habit. If you walk to work, do you take the same path every day? How often do you sit in the same place all the time? Always have lunch with a certain type of food? When going to a restaurant always order the same food? Do you always ride on the same bus route? How do you dress?

Identify worries. Often, repetitive behaviors stem from deep-seated anxieties or from some narrow beliefs that have arisen inadvertently. As you begin to recognize the causes of these habits, you can consider changing them. Do you feel nervous when you DO NOT order the drink you always use when you go to a familiar refreshment shop? Or choose to take the bus instead of walking to work? What’s so scary about that idea?

  • Write these questions next to the things you do every day, and be as specific as possible. What worries you about sitting next to a stranger and starting a conversation with them? What’s stopping you from going to that newly opened restaurant?
  • Ask friends and family for help. Usually your friends know you better than you do yourself. Ask a simple question, “Am I predictable?”. If you suspect you are, they’ve probably noticed some habits of yours that you might not even notice yourself.

Take notes on boring times. Part of that spontaneity is dynamism. During the course of a day, you make a note of times when you just sit around in the house, not knowing exactly what to do, or when you feel bored. What do you choose to do at that time?

  • When writing this list, you should also write down your “dream days”. Assuming you have all the means and opportunities, what will you do at that time? What could make your evening perfect after work or school?

Choose behaviors that can be changed. Review your list and choose a habit you want to change. Some habits are very good, because habits can actually help us be more productive and put our mind at ease. But some habits are rooted in a limited belief or anxieties, they make us lazy, unwilling to try to experience new things.

  • Specifically, you mark the things that make you feel ashamed. If in your opinion the perfect evening should include dancing, but you often stay home playing games despite feeling ashamed of it, that’s a sign of a habit that can be changed. If you always order latte because it’s the cheapest thing on the menu, why change?

Breaking Old Habits

Start slowly. You should tweak these rules a bit, depending on the list of things you need to change. Choose a new route to work, bring lunch instead of going to the restaurant. Calling a friend to ask him out for a drink on the street instead of going straight home after work. Go to the library to study instead of going to a coffee shop. Do you feel better? Any worries?

Reconnect with people. Often, rigid habits lead to feelings of loneliness. We tend to think that everyone is out there having fun while we’re stuck in the house. But when you are thinking about planning, that’s when you are alone on the road.

  • Invite people to do simple things together. If having a few beers on the porch is your usual evening, change it up by calling up an old friend from high school. As such, you need to plan to do more.

Make yourself more mysterious. Spontaneity also implies the meaning of making “others difficult to guess about me” to create an interesting feeling. Next time someone asks about your weekend, you should answer something like, “Really tired. How about you?”. A confusing answer will make others curious about you and the things you do, giving you the opportunity to continue that spontaneous adventure.

Pursue hobbies. [1] X Research Source If you are in the habit of eating pizza late at night or fasting on weekends, what prevents you from eating? It’s very easy to come up with an excuse not to do something. Instead of sitting there worrying that this whim might be a mistake, or that you’ll regret not having your pizza after 10 p.m., if so, eat it.

  • If you regret not acting on those whims, then you need to learn to acknowledge and act on them.

Plan immediately. When you’re talking with friends around, it’s easy to draw some vague plan in the future: “We should go camping sometime” or “Let’s meet soon for lunch next time.” again”. Instead of sitting and drawing in your head, you should choose a specific day, an activity and practice right away. You shouldn’t say “I hope we go out on spring break” but say “Let’s buy plane tickets now”.

  • Or, if you’re used to meticulous planning, you have to decide to actively NOT plan. You can say you’ll see someone again, but don’t think about anything because you’ll do it together. Then the two of you meet in a strange place in town and explore that place together.

Traveling. It’s easy to get stuck in your daily routine if you’re in the same place all the time. Especially when you live in a small town, there are not many activities for you to participate in.

  • Take the time to plan your trip, but at the same time allow a few days to come up with new plans. The worst case scenario is that you have to walk in a strange place and don’t know where to go all day long, but then it is beneficial to your health.
  • It doesn’t have to be a lot of money. Even going for coffee at a cheap coffee shop in the next town is more enjoyable than a typical Friday night in my town.

Say Yes

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/d/d2/209572-11.jpg/v4-728px-209572-11.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https:// www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/d/d2/209572-11.jpg/v4-728px-209572-11.jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:345,”bigWidth”:728,” bigHeight”:546,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser-output”></div>”}
Whenever someone asks about something, you should say yes. Saying no also means you always have things that you do every day. Have you been invited to a karate class but turned it down because you didn’t like it? Has a friend invited you to go to a new place but you said no, because you suspect there is no fun? If you can remove the word “no” from the vocabulary, a new world will come to you.

  • Saying yes can take you on a new journey. Just think if you know for sure what you will do tomorrow? If you are open to new opportunities, anything is possible.

Say yes to your own thoughts. We all have different ideas ringing in our heads, but we must listen to the wildest, most creative, and spontaneous ones. For example, thoughts like, “That Japanese restaurant just opened, let’s go!”, or when you receive an invitation to attend a pottery class and think, “Maybe I’ll like it.” Don’t leave that word in your head! You need to learn to say yes to yourself.

  • Besides that, there are also practical and rational thoughts, thoughts that favor daily routine and simplicity. You must not let them take center stage, if you find yourself constantly listening to such thoughts, you must ask yourself why that voice always dominates other voices.

Always awake. We must be clear: if someone tells you to jump off a cliff, don’t say yes. If you know for sure that drinking too much alcohol will make you unconscious, don’t say yes. Here’s what you should think: there are situations where saying “yes” is not a wise choice. If that’s the right choice, then you should move on. It’s important to know the difference!

  • Always act in your own interest. If you don’t want to go into that flickering darkness, don’t go. You’ll regret taking the plunge. Saying yes doesn’t mean you have to force yourself to do something, it should be something you enjoy and never mind.

Assess your ability to say “yes” over time. The philosophy of living an open life will lead to great opportunities, but also hidden risks. After applying this philosophy of life for a while, you need to look back on the effectiveness of your choices. Maybe you should just say yes to one thing a day, or just say yes to things you know you won’t regret. How do you know how to say “yes” effectively?

    • Find out what seems to work the most. If you spot some new restaurants, cafes or new places to explore in town, focus on that! If you’re hanging out with people you shouldn’t be with, you can try to decline the invitation next time. Use spontaneity to make life more interesting, instead of more difficult and challenging.
  • Advice

    • You must not overdo it or overdo it. You can act out spontaneously without having to eat out every night or spend a lot of money on new clothes. It’s really a state of mind, and showing “outrage” has the potential to become a habit as well.
    • Learn to trust yourself.
