Select a straight line. Under the “Lines” heading, you’ll click on one of the available lines.

Draw a straight line. Click and drag the mouse over the part where you want to insert the line in the Word document to do this.

  • You can move the line by clicking and dragging it. You can also adjust the length and direction of the line by clicking and dragging the circle at one end (or the middle) of the line.

Place the cursor where you want to insert the line. You need to place the cursor on a blank line, as this will not work if there is content before or after the cursor on the same line.

Type three dashes consecutively. Use the dash key on the number pad row above the keyboard, or on the numeric keypad.

  • Type *** and press ↵ Enter to create a dotted line.
  • Type ___ (three underlined lines) and press ↵ Enter to create a bolder line.
  • Type === and press ↵ Enter to style two parallel lines.
  • Type ### and press ↵ Enter to style three parallel lines with the center line in bold.
  • Type ~~~ and press ↵ Enter to create a wavy line.
