Enter the command “traceroute”. Type traceroute website.com and don’t forget to replace website.com with the name and extension of the website of your choice ( youtube.com in this example) then press ↵ Enter .

  • You don’t need to enter “https://” or “www.” of the website address.
  • If you have the website’s IP address, you can use that instead of the URL.

See results. Once the process is complete, you can see the address of each port the trace command passed to reach its destination.

    • If there are any blank lines, don’t worry, this indicates that the trace command is being returned as a result instead of going through a port.
  • Advice

    • The port number between your computer and the website you selected does not include blank lines. For example, if the command returns 12 ports with 3 blank lines, that means there are 9 ports between the computer and the website.

    Warning

    • The list of ports between the computer and the selected website may change at any time.
