Open a Microsoft Word document by double-clicking the blue app with the letter W . Then, click the File menu at the top of the screen and select Open… .

  • To create a new document, click New from within the File menu.

Click Margins on the left side of the toolbar.

Click Custom Margins… (Custom Margins).

  • If desired, simply click on one of the available margin templates that matches, such as Normal (2.54 cm on all sides) or Narrow (1.27 cm on all sides).

Margin setting. Enter a parameter representing the width of the margin in the Top , Bottom , Left , and Right fields.

  • Adjust gutter margins only if you plan to use the document for binding, such as a book or report. In this case, enter the parameters in the gutter field so that the document is wide enough to close as a volume, and use the drop-down menu to specify where to close (top or left).

Select the method of applying margins.

  • Click Whipe document if you want the margins to be the same throughout the document.
  • Click This point forward if you want to apply a new margin to pages from the current cursor position forward.
  • Click Selected sections after selecting the block of text in the document to which you want to apply the new margin.
