How to Download Google Books

Google is one of the best sources for downloading books on the Internet, allowing you to choose what you want to read from a variety of sources and access them on your computer or in an electronic reader (E-reader). Downloading Google books can be a bit complicated for you, especially if you want to use them on more than one device. You can download books like EPUB or PDF, but you may need to remove copy protection after downloading.

Before start

Understand what can be downloaded. There are basically two types of Google Books: the search engine and online reader Google Books, and the Google Play Books store. There is very little connection between the two, but all books purchased will be in the Google Play Books library. Regardless of which service you’re using, you can only download books you’ve purchased, or books that are available for free.

You cannot download any books in Preview mode. Preview allows you to read selected pages from a book before you buy it, often as a way to make sure the conversion to an eBook (eBook) format is appropriate. If the book has pages greyed out, it cannot be downloaded.

Download from Google Play Books Library

Open the Google Play Books library. You can access it at play.google.com/books . You’ll be prompted to sign in with your Google account if you haven’t already.

Find the book from the library that you want to download. You can only download books you’ve purchased and free books that have been added to your library from the Google Play Store, or books you’ve uploaded yourself.

You cannot download any books in your library if it says “Sample” on the cover photo. The template includes only some of the book’s pages, not the entire book.
Not all purchased books will be downloadable, as the decision is up to the publisher.

Hold your mouse pointer over the book and click the menu button that appears in the top right corner of the cover. If the book is already open, you will need to click “Exit” to return to your library first.

Select “Download PDF” or “Download EPUB” (Download PDF or download EPUB). This allows you to download the book to your computer in the format you want. Purchased books will be downloaded in ACSM format as DRM – Digital Rights Management.

PDF is compatible with most devices, but will not have any navigation features.
EPUB is designed for eBook readers, and allows you to use eBook reader functions for that book.

Remove DRM from downloads of purchased books. When you download the PDF file of a book you purchased from Google Play Books, it is downloaded in ACSM format. This is essentially just a link that must be opened in the Adobe Digital Editions program.

Download from Google Books Search Engine

Open the book you want to download. You can download any book that has a “Read” link in their Google Books search results. The book would need to be free to be able to be downloaded by this method; if the book has been purchased, it will be in your Google Play Books library.

Remove DRM from Purchased Books

Download and install Adobe Digital Editions. This program is required to open the ACSM file in the first place to access the PDF file. Adobe Digital Editions is free and available on adobe.com/sputions/ebook/digital-editions/download.html .

Open Adobe Digital Editions and download the eBook you downloaded. This will download the eBook to your computer.

You can click and drag the ACSM file into the Adobe Digital Editions window to add it.
Check the “I want to authorize my computer without an ID” box in the “Computer Authorization” window that appears. Click the “Authorize” button to activate your computer.

Right-click the book in the Adobe Digital Editions library and select “Show in Explorer” or “Show in Finder”. A window will open and display the downloaded eBook file to your computer. Do not close the window.

Download and install Caliber. This is a free eBook reader program that allows you to remove DRM with a plugin. You can download Caliber for free on caliber-ebook.com/download .

Download the DRM removal plugin. Follow the instructions carefully, as doing it wrong could lead to malware installation.

Go to datafilehost.com/d/4f680364 in Firefox (because Chrome will block the download).
IMPORTANT: Uncheck the “Use our download manager” box.
Click the Download button.
Open the downloaded ZIP file, and then open the “DeDRM_calibre_plugin” folder.
Click and drag the “De_DRM_plugin” ZIP file to your home screen.

Open Caliber and click the “>>” button in the top right corner. This will open additional menu choices.

Click the “+” button to generate a new encryption key. Click “Close”, “OK”, and then “Apply”. Restart Caliber again.

Return to the Explorer or Finder opening window with the PDF file Adobe Digital Reader downloaded (Step 3). Click and drag the PDF file into the Caliber window to add it to the Caliber library. DRM will be removed when books are added to the library.

Any new ACSM files you add to the Caliber library will now also have the DRM removed.

Download and install Google Books Downloader (Google Books Installer). This is a free program that allows you to enter the URL for a Google Books file and then download the available pages to your computer.

Copy the URL for the book you want to download. Select a preview style in the Google Books search engine and copy the URL. Remember that this tool will only download pages that you can view in the Google Books website reader.

You can also choose where you want the book to be stored. By default, it will be kept on your home screen.

Click “Start” to start downloading the book. It may take some time if there are many pages to load.

Warning

Take care to avoid files containing malware. Do not download files that appear to be unreliable.
Sometimes the book is not available on eBooks.
