Open Sound Recorder. Click the Start button. In the search dialog, type sound recorder , then click Sound Recorder in the search list.

On Windows 8, type “sound recorder” on the Start screen and select Sound Recorder in the list of results.
Sound Recorder will not start if you do not have a microphone connected to your computer.
To listen to audio again, you must have speakers or headphones installed on your computer.

Start recording. In the Sound Recorder window, click the Start Recording button with the red dot.

Stop recording. Click the Stop Recording button (black square) to stop recording. When you press this button, the machine will automatically display the option to save the recording.

To re-record a song from a CD player on your computer, set the computer to recognize the input line instead of the input mic as follows:
- Open the Sound panel by clicking the Start button > Contrp Panel . In the search box, type sound then click select.

- Click on Properties > Levels tab and move the volume slider to the right to increase the recording volume, then click OK .

If you can’t find Sound Recorder on your computer, you may have deleted the program (to free up hard drive space). In this case, you can download another free recording program from a trusted website.
To record guitar, you need a sound card with line input. Look at the front, back or side of the computer and you will see a spot with 3 holes in pink, blue and green. The pink hole is where the microphone is plugged in. Blue is the location of the line plug like a CD player, blue is an audio output device such as a speaker or headset. If only the guitar is plugged in, follow these steps:

- Record 60 seconds of silence. From the Edit menu, choose Copy > Paste . Here’s how to double the recording time to 120 seconds. From here, you can continue pasting 60 seconds at a time, or double it up: for each paste, simply select Copy then paste. This will extend the recording time quickly: 60+60=120 + 120 = 240 + 240 = 480 + 480 = 960, etc. With just 4 copy-paste operations, you can record audio up to 16 minutes!
- The second way has a lower brute-force rate.
- Open Command Prompt by clicking Start . In the search dialog, type command prompt , in the list of results click on Command Prompt .
- In the command prompt, type the following command, where filename represents the filename you want to record, filetype is the file format:
  SoundRecorder/FILE filename.filetype /DURATION hhh:mm:ss
  
  For example, if you want to record the file “FunkyBunky” in wma format with a length of 3 minutes and 20 seconds, you can type the command

- Press enter key, Sound Recorder will start up as an icon in the notification area.
- Proceed to record, and at the end of the specified time, Sound Recorder will save the file with the name “FunkyBunky” at location C:UsersBunky
