Attach the mouse receiver to the computer. The receiver must match the computer’s USB port. You’ll find the rectangular, slightly narrow USB ports located on the sides of the laptop’s body and in front of the desktop’s CPU.

  • Attaching the receiver before starting the mouse allows your computer to install the necessary drivers or software to use the mouse.

Make sure the mouse has a battery installed or charged. To do this, you just need to open the mounting cover on the bottom of the mouse, but some mice have batteries mounted in the rear compartment of the mouse.

  • If you haven’t used your mouse in months, you should replace the battery even if it’s a new one.
  • Some mice, such as the Apple Magic Mouse 2, need to be charged instead of a battery.

Launch the mouse. This is how to turn on the button on the underside of the mouse, but you can also find the On/Off slider on the side of the mouse.

  • If you don’t see the On/Off button, refer to the mouse manual.

  • If the mouse doesn’t move, try turning it off and then on again. If possible, try changing the USB port used to attach the receiver.
