Trim thick or long hairs. If the hair on your back is quite thick and dense, they can cause razor blockage. You should trim them first to ensure that you get the best results when shaving.

  • There are quite a few ways that you can use. For example, you can have someone else trim the hair on your back with high-powered scissors and combs or an electronic trimmer.

Exfoliate dead skin. Have someone else rub your back with warm water and a mild abrasive. You can use a skin brush in the shower, a gentle exfoliator, or a pumice stone – whatever you want. They will help remove dead skin cells before shaving.

  • The main benefit of this process is that it helps reduce the risk of ingrown hairs. [1] X Research Source However, it is not strictly necessary, so you can skip this step if you are in a hurry.

If you have an electronic trimmer available, use it. Although the trimmer will not be able to shave as close and clean as a regular razor, it will help you quickly remove quite a lot of hair in a short time. If you have this trimmer, you can ask someone else to use it to trim the hair on your back.

  • You don’t have to shave off the hair – just trim the “bulk” hair. After that, the shaving process with the razor will be faster and the hair will also be less trapped in the razor.

Apply shaving cream or gel. Ask someone else to help you apply a thin layer of the shaving product you want on your back. You can use the product that you normally use for shaving.

  • Remember that you will need to use more cream/gel than when shaving. You should be fully prepared before starting this process, otherwise you will have to go to the store to buy more shaving cream in the middle of shaving.

Shaved. Have someone else shave for you. You should stand near the sink so that the person can easily wash the razor. You can ask them to apply more cream or gel if needed until your back is completely smooth.

  • In order for the shaving process to go smoothly and without discomfort, you should shave in the direction of hair growth , then shave again in the opposite direction of hair growth . [2] X Research Source Shaving against the initial hair growth may cause some pain and irritation.

You can shower again if you want. You don’t have to do this step, but it’s a great way to get rid of any hair that’s left on your skin and can be uncomfortable to wear. In addition, it will help you feel more comfortable – especially if you have not experienced the feeling of having a smooth back for quite a long time.

Blot dry. Use a clean towel to gently pat the skin dry. Remember to only soak , not rub . Rubbing can irritate this new and delicate area of skin. [3] X Research Sources

  • To maintain the smoothness and softness of your skin, you can apply a layer of unscented lotion on your back. Avoid using products that contain fragrance – the chemicals in these products can irritate freshly shaved skin (especially if your helper accidentally leaves small cuts or scrapes on the skin) .

Apply the cream evenly on your back. Make sure that the cream covers all the hair on your back. Ask someone else for help if you can’t reach the middle of your back – you won’t want to miss a spot. You don’t have to rub your skin too hard. Just gently apply the cream on the hair on your back.

  • Wash your hands after applying the cream on your back. The cream can cause skin irritation when it dries (not to mention it will remove hair on the back of your hands if you leave it on for too long).

Leave the cream on the skin according to the time in the instructions for use. The instructions on the product’s packaging will help you figure out how long to wait. Usually, you will have to wait between 3 – 6 minutes.

  • Then, use a damp cloth or towel to wipe off a small area of hair on your back. If the hair does not fall off easily, you need to wait a few more minutes.

Rinse skin with warm water in the shower. This is a quick, convenient way to get the cream (and hair) off your back. You can use a wet towel to wipe your back, but you’ll easily miss a few spots, and this will keep the cream on your skin longer.

Use hair removal wax (Wax)

This technique is notoriously painful, but usually gives long-lasting results (in about 4-6 weeks). [7] X Research Source This method will give best results on hairs at least ‘ 0.5 cm long . You should ask a friend or loved one for help – you simply can’t get rid of the hair on your back with this method .

Shop for hair removal wax products. They are usually sold in almost every supermarket and cosmetic store.

  • There are quite a few types to choose from. While their results are often the same, a hot wax hair removal kit will usually give the best results as they can cover a wider area of hair. [8] X Research Sources
  • Note: Waxing will cause your back to become red and sensitive, so it’s a good idea to do it for at least 24 hours before you want to expose your back.

Wash your back with soap and water. You should be able to easily do this in the shower. This is an important step – the wax will stick better if your skin is free of sweat and oil.

  • After bathing, be sure to dry your back completely.

Prepare the wax according to the instructions printed on the product packaging. For most hot waxes, you will need to warm up the wax before using it (usually in the microwave). The temperature of the wax should be warm, not burning the skin. Different product types will have slightly different instructions for use.

Tear the paper off the skin. Pull the paper off the skin against the direction of hair growth. This is the opposite direction from which you apply the wax. Use fast, strong movements. Don’t pull slowly – you’ll get hurt.

  • To relieve pain, you should not pull the paper from your skin vertically or at an angle. Keep it close to the body and pull the paper parallel to the skin and do the branching as quickly as possible.

When finished, you should wash your back with antibacterial soap. After completing the waxing process, your back will be slightly red and irritated. And as such, it will be more susceptible to infection than usual. To minimize this risk, wash your back with soap. And the easiest way to do this is to take a shower. [9] X Research Source

Use a Back Shaver

To remove hair on your back without the help of another person or a professional, you can use a razor specifically for the back area. This type of razor (which can be in the form of a regular razor or an electronic shaver) is built to resemble a back scraper with a long handle so you can move across your entire back.

Image titled Get Rid of Back Hair Step 21

{“smallUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images_en/thumb/5/55/Get-Rid-of-Back-Hair-Step-21-Version-2.jpg/v4-728px-Get- Rid-of-Back-Hair-Step-21-Version-2.jpg”,”bigUrl”:”https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/5/55/Get-Rid-of-Back- Hair-Step-21-Version-2.jpg/v4-728px-Get-Rid-of-Back-Hair-Step-21-Version-2.jpg”,”smallWidth”:460,”smallHeight”:345,” bigWidth”:728,”bigHeight”:546,”licensing”:”<div class=”mw-parser-output”></div>”}
Prepare your back. The preparation for shaving with a back-specific razor is similar to when you use a regular razor or when you ask someone else for help. In general, you need to:

  • Exfoliate with water and a mild abrasive or brush to reduce the risk of ingrown hairs.
  • Rinse and dry your back if you use an electronic razor.
  • Wet your back and apply shaving cream/gel if you use a regular razor.

Find a suitable spot to shave. While a back-specific razor will allow you to reach your entire back, you can still miss a few spots if you can’t see what you’re doing. You should shave in a bathroom with a large mirror. Hold a small mirror in the direction opposite the large mirror (so that the two mirror faces are facing each other).

Use a small mirror to observe. With one hand holding the razor, the other hand moves the small hand mirror in front of him. Adjust so that you can see your back in the rear mirror through the reflection on the hand mirror.

Shave the hair on the lower back. Fold the razor at an angle (if the type of razor you use has this function). Adjust your arms so that you can touch the lower back from the side of your body. You may only need to adjust the mirror to see.

Double check to make sure you haven’t missed a spot. It can be difficult to see the entire back through two mirrors, so take a few minutes to examine each area one by one. If you find that there are still some hairs on your back, you can proceed to shave them as usual.

  • When you’re done, take a shower to wash off any remaining hair on your skin. Use a towel to dry the skin. You can apply unscented lotion to keep your skin soft and smooth if you wish.

Using the epilator

An epilator is a small device that can help you quickly remove multiple hairs at once – similar to electronic tweezers. This method provides the same effect as waxing (prevents hair from growing back in about 4-6 weeks) and gives best results on long hair areas (3 cm or more is better). Perhaps you will need someone else’s help . [10] X Research Source

Rinse skin with warm water. A quick shower will help soften the hair on your back and relax your skin so you’ll be able to remove the hair more easily. While this is not a necessary step, it is a pretty smart idea you can make.

  • You don’t need to wash your skin with soap yet – you can do this later.
  • Note: Similar to waxing, it’s best to do this the day before you want to show off your back to give the redness and irritation time to heal.

After rinsing, pat the skin dry with a towel. Most epilators will work best on dry skin. [11] X Research Sources However, some models are designed for use in humid environments – you should check the product packaging if unsure.

  • If you’d like, you can also apply a little talcum powder or baby powder to your skin after you’ve dried your skin with a towel. These will help the hair become drier and stiffer, allowing the epilator to move more easily. [12] X Research Source

Plucking hair on the back. Turn on the epilator. Ask someone else to help you move the machine slowly over each area of hair on your back. The blade of the machine will forcefully pull the hair out of place (similar to the use of paper in waxing process). Although there is still some controversy about the difference between the pain levels of waxing and the use of an epilator, the process is often described as quite painful. Just like waxing, don’t hesitate if you need to take a break.

  • If you feel too much pain, you should move the epilator quickly over your skin to reduce the amount of time you have to endure the pain. However, you may need to repeat the procedure several times on an area of hair if you miss a few spots.

Wash your back with soap. When done, your back will become red and irritated. To prevent infection, gently wash your back with soap and warm water. Use a clean towel to pat the skin dry when you’re done.

Use professional treatments

These methods will give you peace of mind that your back is in the hands of a professional. They will also provide long-term results (some remedies can even give near-permanent results). However, they are often more expensive than conventional manual (DIY) methods. The level of pain depends on the therapy you use .

Professional hair removal with wax. This method is similar to how you would wax your own hair or ask a friend for help. The pain level is also about the same. A professional can get the job done more quickly than your amateur helper, depending on the type of service you use, you may also be able to relax in a more relaxed environment than at home.

  • The cost of waxing on your back depends on the area you live in and the salon you choose. In Vietnam, the usual price is from 800,000 – 1 million VND / time – the price will be higher if you need to remove hair in some other areas. [13] X Research Source

Consider laser treatments. This method uses a precisely controlled medical laser to burn off the hair follicles. You will need to do it several times to get permanent results. Over time, some hair may grow back, however, if you have had multiple treatments, this is not often the case. [14] X Research Source

  • In Vietnam, laser treatment costs about 2-12 million/treatment (depending on the type of technology you use and the salon you choose).
  • One benefit of laser treatments is that they allow you to “thin out” individual sections of hair rather than removing them all at once. [15] X Research Source

Learn electrolysis hair removal methods. This is a method that uses a small electric tip to burn each hair follicle. This method will give you permanent hair removal – once each hair tissue is treated, it is very rare that the hair will grow back. However, since it is done on each individual hair follicle, it can take quite a while.

    • The cost for one treatment of this method is about 2 million VND, but you will have to treat many times for large hair areas such as hair on the back. [16] X Research Source
  • Advice

    • Use the new blade for best results when shaving.
    • Apply products that help prevent redness and ingrown hairs. [17] X Research Source
    • Take a pain reliever 2 hours before waxing or with an epilator if you are quite sensitive to pain. [18] X Research Source You can also ask someone else to put pain relievers on your back. If you use this method, wait for the cream to dry completely before proceeding to the next step.

    Warning

    • Do not use the electronic shaver while bathing.
    • Do not leave the hair removal cream on the skin for longer than the time printed on the instructions for use.
    • For women, excessive back hair can be a sign of other health problems. You should consult your doctor before proceeding with treatment. [19] X Research Source
    • Before using chemical hair removal products, you should test the product on a small area of skin on your back or shoulders to make sure you are not allergic to them. [20] X Research Sources
