How to Turn Off Browsing History on Chrome

This wikiHow article shows you how to stop saving search and browsing activity on your Google account in Chrome. There is no option to stop storing browsing data locally on your computer, but you can disable logging on your online account.

Open the Google Chrome browser on your computer. The Chrome icon looks like a three-color circle with a blue dot in the middle.

Tap the profile icon. This icon looks like a thumbnail of a Google profile in the upper-right corner of the New Tab page. A drop-down menu will display.

If you don’t have a profile picture, this button will show the initials of your name.
If Chrome opens a page other than the New Tab page, just open a new tab to find the button.
If you’re not signed in to your Google account on Chrome, you’ll see a blue Sign in button there. In this case, click this button and log in to your account.

Tap My Account . It’s a blue button on the drop-down menu. The My Account page on your Google account will be opened.

Click Manage your Google activity under Personal info & privacy. This option can be found in the middle column on the My Account page.

If you can’t see this option, click Personal info & privacy at the top. Then, search for this option on the left navigation panel.

Click GO TO ACTIVITY CONTROLS . This option is written in blue text below the Activity contrps heading. It is located on the right side of the screen. The Activity contrps page is displayed.

Slide the Web & App Activity toggle to the off position. The toggle button will be blue when turned on. You will have to confirm your action in a new pop-up window.

Tap PAUSE in the pop-up window. This will confirm your action and disable the Web & App Activity toggle. The toggle will be grayed out. Chrome will stop saving browsing and search data on your Google account.

Advice

Try using Incognito Mode if you don’t want your browsing history to be saved on your computer. Pages you visit in Incognito (Incognito) will not show up in your browser history.

Warning

There is no option to disable browser history in Chrome’s app. You can stop saving history on your Google account, but Chrome will always save your browsing history on your computer.
