Think about what you want with your video. It doesn’t have to be something special, but it can be good and interesting enough to provoke a YouTube audience. Ask yourself the following questions and write down the answers.

  • How long will my video be? YouTube limits video length to 15 minutes. If you want your video to be longer than 15 minutes, post it as another video. (e.g. Part 1, Part 2, …).
  • What environment will my video be in? You may have to change the settings on your camcorder.
  • Is the subject I’m filming interesting or not? Liao anyone watching? If the beginning of your video is boring, viewers won’t waste time watching the rest. Don’t make a video only you’re interested in, unless you’re just uploading it for fun.

Prepare everything before you start recording. You don’t want to be in the middle of a job when you suddenly realize that something is still unfinished!

  • If you are narrating, speak loud and clear so that your viewers can hear you. Please drink water before you start recording. Keep a water bottle within reach and don’t drink loudly while recording!

Turn on the camera. Make sure it’s set to “movie”, not “picture”. Make sure the focus of the recording is clear and sharp. If you have a lackluster video, it will be difficult to watch.

Make sure the camera is ready. It will be difficult and annoying to watch a blurry or shaky video. If you can’t hold the camera steady while recording, use a tripod or place the camcorder on top of a stack of books. Make sure your shot is clear and that the entire subject is in the frame – not just half of it.

Make sure your video does not contain copyrighted information. If you’re using a song as background music, include the title and the artist performing it in your description.
