Watch for signs of growth. Have you recently been bumped in the basement aisle? Have you finally conquered the height limit to enter the roller coaster? Slowly but surely, you are probably growing!

  • Shorter pants are a clear sign that you are growing taller. If the jeans you used to have to roll up on are now short and look like you’re preparing for a flood, it’s time to measure your height (and buy some new pants, too).
  • Enlarged feet are also another sign of growth. Your feet are your support just like the roots that keep a tree upright, so it’s not surprising that the size of your feet always corresponds to a person’s height.

Find a point of reference. If you have siblings, it’s probably not just once that you’ve stood with your backs to each other to see who’s taller. However, the best way to prove you’re getting higher is to pick a point that isn’t up for comparison.

  • Usually, you can use an immovable object like the bottom edge of a wall sign, the ceiling of your treehouse in front of your house, or someone who isn’t as tall as your dad as a reference point. The closer you get to the point where the sign is at eye level, your head is about to hit the ceiling or your dad’s shoulder, the taller you are.
  • Of course, the reference point to measure the height of children has always been the wall, the bar along the door or the inside of the door to mark the child’s height.

Stand close to the wall. One way to get an accurate height measurement is to stand close to a flat surface like a wall, [1] X Trusted Source Centers for Disease Contrp and Prevention Go to source but consistency is important first best. If you took your measurements with bare feet in the past, then be sure to take off your footwear each time you measure afterwards.

  • Take off your shoes and flatten your hair if necessary.
  • Stand up straight, back and heels against the wall. Feet together and flat on the ground (don’t tiptoe!)
  • Look straight ahead. Have someone use a pencil to mark the highest point on the top of the head against the wall. A less accurate way to measure yourself is to hold a book overhead, push the book against the wall, and hold the book in place while turning to mark with a pencil.

Mark your height gain. Parents often do this to know how tall their pet is!

  • Draw lines on the wall with a marker or marker if you want to keep it longer than a pencil, and note the date (with the child’s name and age, if you like).
  • If you don’t like marking on the wall, you can take a tape measure to measure the distance from the floor to the mark and write it down in a notebook with the relevant information.

Go see a doctor. Measuring height and weight is a basic routine when it comes to health checks for children and adults, as unusual changes in both measurements can signal a health problem. Your doctor will chart your growth rate, which is the change in your height over time.

  • The medical staff or physician will use accurate measurements to record; Please ask for the results and record if you like.
  • If you’re over 40 don’t be surprised if you start to get a little shorter with each measurement. By this age you are long past the growth phase, and under the influence of gravity, especially in the spine, you will begin to lower. However, an unusually rapid decrease in height can be a sign of a condition such as osteoporosis (essentially weak bones). [2] X Research Source

Calculate your maximum height. Genetics are the most important factor in height, so you can guess your maximum height by looking at your parents’ height.

  • In the article “How to guess height” many methods to predict height are described, including the methods mentioned here. However, you need to know that the simplest methods will have an error of +/- 10 cm, which means if your predicted height is 1.67 m, your actual height could be 1. .57 m or 1.77 m.
  • The reduced Gray method states the formula for adding the father’s height and the mother’s height, dividing it by two, and then either adding 10 cm (boys) or subtracting 10 cm (girls).
  • For young children, doubling the height of an 18-month-old girl or a 2-year-old boy will give a fairly accurate estimate.
  • More precise calculation methods (easier thanks to online calculators) or hand X-rays to determine “bone age” are especially helpful with older children.

Accept that there’s not much you can do. Your maximum height depends mainly on genetics (about 70%), and the rest (30%) is determined by health status, nutrition and environmental factors. [3] X Research Sources

  • So, if you end up getting shorter or taller than you want, it’s your genes, and don’t try to swing the bar to get taller!

Don’t listen to hot “height gain” ads online. A single search on the internet turns up thousands of results with pages of “unforgettable” methods to increase height. Most of it is just bullshit. The special pills not only won’t make you taller, but they can even make you sick, and definitely cost you money.

  • Many websites describe stretching exercises. While stretching is good and can also help you grow a bit taller in the short term, you won’t see long-term results with these exercises. Don’t forget that gravity always prevails.
  • Even so, exercises that improve your posture to stand up straighter can help you at least look taller.

Get enough sleep. The human body produces growth hormone during sleep, so the deeper and better you sleep, the higher your chances of reaching your maximum height will be. [4] X Research Sources

  • To stay physically, mentally and emotionally healthy, growing teens should try to get 8-10 hours of sleep each night, preferably at a set time to keep the body’s biological clock in balance. [5] X Research Sources

Healthy eating. No, it’s not about the miracle superfood that can turn you into a basketball player in the middle, but the necessary nutrients that are beneficial to the body’s growth process.

  • You’ve probably heard a lot about healthy eating: eat more vegetables and fruits, lean protein, reduce saturated fat and refined sugar, eat more fresh foods, cut down on processed foods.
  • Certain nutrients, such as calcium, which help strengthen bones (and thus improve posture), are also beneficial for looking and feeling taller. [6] X Research Source
  • The most essential nutrients like niacin, vitamin D, and zinc – all of which you get with a healthy and varied diet – also help with growth. [7] X Research Sources[8] X Trusted Source PubMed Central Go to Source

Exercise regularly. Don’t target exercise programs that promise to get you taller. Instead, you should focus on aerobic (aerobic respiration) and endurance exercises. Good health will create conditions for a tall body.

    • As noted above, stretching is also good for the body, but stretching exercises that promise to make you taller forever won’t have long-term effects. You should focus on health and fitness and let your body grow naturally (within the genetics allows).
    • At least 60 minutes of activity a day can help teens look and feel good, something that can help even if you don’t grow taller. You can go to the internet to find recommended exercise regimens. [9] X Research Source
  • Advice

    • Pay attention to the fit when dressing. The hem of your pants when you first bought them is long enough to hit the floor but not yet reach your ankles is a sure sign that you are growing. But it’s also possible that someone washed your clothes incorrectly and your pants shrunk.
    • Don’t obsess about height. There’s very little you can do to speed up the growth process, and some people only grow little by little and soar in a short time.
    • If possible, have someone else mark your height, this will be easier and possibly more accurate.
    • Try to measure your height at the same time of day each time. Your spine relaxes when lying down and compresses at the end of the day. You can be about 2.5 cm taller in the morning than in the evening.
    • Get old clothes from last year or even a few months ago to try on. Where are the pants that were too long before? How are you dressed now? You are growing up there!
    • Measure your height carefully in the same position each time. You may not notice much change, so measure carefully for better accuracy.
    • For more accuracy, you should measure at the same medical facility each time you measure your height.
    • Don’t be discouraged if you don’t see much change. Enjoy life regardless of height.
    • Don’t panic if you’re half a meter taller than your peers, because everyone’s growth rate is different.
