Who Is Rebbie Jackson?

Rebbie Jackson, the eldest child of the Jackson musical family, collaborated with Michael Jackson to produce her number one hit “Centipede” in 1984. She went on to release a number of successful albums including Reaction, RU Tuff Enuff and, in 1998, Yours Faithfully, which featured contributions from her children. She was married to her childhood sweetheart Nathaniel Brown from 1968 to 2013.

Rebbie married her childhood sweetheart Nathaniel Brown in 1968. The couple has three children, including two daughters Stacee and Yashi, and a son, Austin. All three of Jackson’s children are singers and performers. Her two daughters formed a group originally called X-Girls, which is now known as Geneva. Her son, also known as Auggie, is a solo artist. Rebbie Jackson’s daughter, Stacee, gave birth to Jackson’s first grandchild, London Blue, in 2005. Nathaniel Brown died in January of 2013 after a battle with cancer.

‘Centipede,’ Collaboration with Michael Jackson

In 1984, Rebbie collaborated with her brother Michael Jackson to co-write and produce her No. 1 hit “Centipede,” off her debut solo album Centipede on the Columbia label. The song reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks and No. 24 on the Billboard Hot 100. Jackson’s Centipede album went gold based mostly off the success of the single. Rebbie Jackson released her second album, Reaction, in 1986.

‘Reaction’

The album was produced by members of the group Surface, and her brother Tito Jackson. Jackson’s most popular single off the album, “Reaction,” reached No. 16 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks. On Reaction, Rebbie Jackson also released duets with Cheap Trick lead singer Robin Zander and R&B star Isaac Hayes.

‘Plaything’

Released in 1988, Rebbie Jackson’s third album, RU Tuff Enuff, had the popular single “Plaything.” The song reached the top 10 of the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks. Due to her popularity in England, Rebbie Jackson released a compilation album entitled The Rebbie Jackson Collection by Expansion in 1996. In 1998 Rebbie Jackson released her last solo album, Yours Faithfully, on her brother Michael’s MJJ label.

Early Life

Singer Rebbie Jackson was born Maureen “Rebbie” Reillette Jackson on May 29, 1950, in Gary, Indiana, to Joseph and Katherine Jackson. Rebbie is the eldest child of the famous Jackson musical family.

When Rebbie Jackson’s mother Katherine became a Jehovah’s Witness in 1965, Jackson followed suit and become a devoted member of the religion. She began performing in her family’s Las Vegas shows and television variety show. She then started a career outside of the Jackson family as a background singer for famous acts like Lou Rawls and Chaka Khan.
