Prepare a metal ring or a wooden ring. The easiest way is to choose an existing metal or wooden ring. How big of a dreamcatcher you want to make, choose the size of the ring as big as that. However, if you have never made a dreamcatcher before, you can start with a bracelet with a diameter of about 13 to 20 cm. [1] X Research Source

  • You can buy hoops at grocers or knitting and yarn stores.

Use a suede cord to wrap around the bracelet. You can use natural or synthetic suede straps. The width of the rope should be less than or equal to the width of the shoelace, about 8 times the diameter of the hoop. [2] X Research Source

  • For example, if you are using a 13cm diameter bracelet, a 1.8m long cord will suffice.
  • If you don’t want to use suede straps, you can use ribbon instead.

Choose wire mesh. You should choose tough and soft ropes such as man-made fibers, hemp, nylon, and silk. The length of the rope is 10 times the diameter of the ring. Usually people use natural fiber colors, but you can choose any favorite color. [3] X Research Sources

  • For example, with a 13cm diameter ring, you need a rope about 1.8m long.

Choose decorations. You want to decorate your dreamcatcher how you want. You can use feathers, cords, beads, stones, shells, or anything else that means something to you. [4] X Research Sources

Wrap the rope around the ring

Apply glue to a length of about 1.3 cm on the bracelet. You will then place one end of the suede string on the hoop and wrap it around the glued section so that the rope completely covers the hoop, making sure not to leave any gaps between the loops. When you’re done wrapping the glued section, use a small paper clip to hold the string in place until the glue dries, usually after about 5 minutes. [5] X Research Sources

  • The bracelet must be completely covered by the suede cord, with no gaps between the loops.
  • You just need to use regular glue.
  • If you’re using ribbon, you can tie a double or triple knot to secure the rope to the loop when you start wrapping it instead of using glue.
Continue wrapping. In important places, you apply more glue to the ring before wrapping to make sure the rope is fixed in place. You should apply glue in at least four evenly spaced points on the bracelet. [6] X Research Source

  • Remember to use small paper clips to hold the rope in place where the glue is attached.
  • Wrap the rope tightly around the hoop, the loops should be wrapped so that they fit snugly but do not overlap.
  • If using ribbon, you should also secure the rope in the same way.

End of loop. Wrap in turn until the rope returns to its original position. Before you finish, apply glue to the ring, then wrap and hold the wire in place with a paper clip. [7] X Research Sources

Let the glue dry. Leave the ring just wrapped for about 15 to 20 minutes for the glue to dry completely. After 15 minutes, remove all the paper clips and cut off the excess. [8] X Research Sources

mesh

Securely tie the knitting rope to the hoop. You need to use a rope about 1.8m long, tie a double or triple knot to secure the rope to a point on the bracelet. [9] X Research Source
Wrap the rope around the loop clockwise. About 5 cm from the first knot, wrap the rope around the loop and around itself to form a knot. Pull tight to secure the rope before wrapping the next loop. [10] X Research Source

  • Pulling the rope too hard can cause the dreamcatcher to distort.

Continue wrapping the rope around the loop. You will wrap until the rope returns to the original knot position. Work slowly to make sure the knots are evenly spaced, when you’re done, wrap the rope around the loop, next to the first knot. [11] X Research Source

  • Wrap so that the number of knots is odd.
Knit the second round. Wrap the rope in the center of the first piece of string to form a knot. Do the same until you return to the first knot. [12] X Research Source
Continue knitting until a small circle is formed in the center of the hoop. The more turns you knit, the smaller the circle in the middle will be. Continue knitting until only a small circle remains in the center of the hoop, remembering to pull the rope so that the net is tight and tight. [13] X Research Source
Fasten the net. When there is only a small circle like a coin left, stop winding and tie a knot to the next piece of string. You should tie the pen with double or triple knots to make sure the net can’t come off, then use scissors to cut off the excess. [14] X Research Source
Make a ring to hang. Cut a piece of string about 13cm long, tie the ends to a knot on the loop, pull tightly to form a hanging loop. [15] X Research Source

Thread the beads into the net. You need to do this while knitting the net by threading a bead into the rope before wrapping and tying the next piece of string. You can thread the beads at random or thread them into alternating strings to create a pattern. [16] X Research Source
Hang fabric rope. Cut a piece of fabric with a different color and pattern into small strips, fold the strips in half, place under the dreamcatcher, thread one end through the outermost loop and tie. [17] X Research Source

  • You can also do the same with suede, leather, and other straps for an eye-catching dreamy hanging effect.

Thread the beads onto the string. You can thread a bead onto a thread or string, guide the bead to the desired location, then tie a knot underneath the bead to hold it in place. [18] X Research Sources
  • Feather hanging. Make a bunch of about four to five feathers. You can hold the hairs temporarily with a small paper clip, then use a string to tie them together and tie them under the dreamcatcher. [19] X Research Source

    • You can also thread a few beads into the string that ties the feathers before tying it to the dreamcatcher.
