Clean the ironing board with salt
Prepare tools :
- Salt
- Gloves
- Old cotton towels or paper towels
To clean your iron with salt, you need to do 4 steps :
- Step 1 : Place a paper towel or an old cotton towel on your face ironing board (Figure 1).
- Step 2: Sprinkle a tablespoon of salt on the towel/paper. You should use sea salt or coarse salt. Because the larger the salt, the faster the soleplate will be cleaned (Figure 2).
- Step 3 : Next, you power the iron and adjust the highest temperature and remember to turn off the steam ironing mode (Figure 3).
- Step 4 : Finally, gently press the soleplate on the salt layer and move the iron (like an ironing action) 1-2 times . At this time, the scum will stick to the salt, the soleplate will peel off (Figure 4).

If baking soda is left in the vent, turn on the steam mode to let the water spray out and remove any remaining baking soda. Finally, you wipe the soleplate again with a dry towel and the iron is completely clean.
Distilled water and vinegar: Mix distilled water (or filtered water) with white vinegar in a ratio of 1:1 and then pour it into the iron’s water tank. Turn on the steam mode, iron a thick cotton cloth for 5 minutes . After ironing, pour the mixture into the water tank and wipe the soleplate with a clean cloth.
Toothpaste: First you unplug and wait for the iron to cool down, then you squeeze the toothpaste and then sweep it on the dirty part of the iron.
