I decided to set myself another challenge, knowing how much the couch to 5k one helped my fitness and health. Over the last week I have attempted to walk 25k steps a day! This was quite a challenge, especially at the start when I did not have shock absorbent insoles (which were a god send). However, as soon as they arrived it did get a lot easier for me.
Day 1
The first day was unusual in that I did not walk 25,000 steps that day but instead walked 30,000 steps. One thing lead to another and before I knew it I was at 27,000 and thought…..well I might as well. That was a mistake that I paid for in the coming days! I am not used to walking that sort of distance per day which comes to around 11 miles.
Day 2
On day 2 there was a bit of stiffness in the legs but nothing I thought I couldn’t handle. Off I went to get my steps in! As with the previous day I broke up the distance into 2-3 walks instead of one big slog. Around the halfway stage of the day my feet were really beginning to hurt. I was asking myself why I felt the need to walk 30000 steps yesterday (I came to realise sore feet make me very sassy). I just got my head down and got through it.
Day 3
On the morning of day 3 I didn’t feel as bad as I thought I would, I decided to go out and try to get as much of the walk done in one go. I got more than 23,000 steps done, but by the end was in a world of hurt (as you can probably tell watching the video). I did some research to see if there was anything out there that could help me, and I found it. Gel absorbent cushioned insoles that made me feel like I was walking on clouds! Day 4
I knew the insoles were coming but would not be here until later in the evening, so I had one more painful walk to go! This was probably the worst day of the challenge but knowing it was going to get a little easier the following day kept me going.
Day 5
In contrast to day 4, this was probably my best day. I was using the insoles but I wouldn’t make the mistakes I made on day 3. I decided to break the walk up and before I knew it, I was on to day 6.
Days 6 & 7
Days 6 and 7 were relatively straightforward and a lot easier thanks to the brilliant gel insoles!
I did it!
Overall, by walking 25k steps a day for 7 days, I lost an inch from my waist and 5lbs in weight. This week seemed daunting at first but as soon as I realised I was capable of doing it I was motivated to keep going. I was fortunate that I had the time to complete this challenge. Each day I was walking a good few hours in order to get the steps in! I will continue to walk 10,000 steps every day for the next 30 days at least and will post updates.
